Whats The Average Diamond Engagement Ring Cost

What does an Average Diamond sell for?

Let’s find out…

To determine what an “Average” Diamond is, we’ll need to look at what the averages are for the 4 C’s first, which is Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat Weight.

So here we go…

Cut

The Average Cut is “Good” (Versus “Excellent” or “Very Good”). “Good” falls in the middle of the GIA Cut Grades (Below that are “Fair” and “Poor”).

A “Good” Cut will give you a good amount of Brilliance and Sparkle. It should look pretty, catch the light, and be much more affordable in price.

Color

The Average Color is G, H, I, which is in the Near Colorless range. G or H is considered a Fine White Diamond Color, and most of the times it will look white and not show any traces of Yellow. I Color may look a little bit darker but most people still can’t see any color in this stone. J Color and down will start to show colors of Yellow, Brown, or even Gray.

Clarity

The average Clarity is a SI1 Clarity. SI1 Clarity is a wonderful Clarity to have because all of the Inclusions inside the stone are microscopic only. Which means if you want to see the flaws inside the stone you’ll need 10 times magnification, like a Jeweler’s Loupe or a Microscope.

In other words, your fiancé won’t be looking at her diamond and seeing a huge black spot, and that’s good!!!

Carat Weight

The Average Carat Weight is 33 Points, or a third of a Carat. This may not sound like a big Carat Weight, and it’s not, but it is the average weight across the country. The “Dream” Carat Weight is actually One Full Carat (1.00 CT), but that usually about five or six times the price as well. It’s a big difference in appearance, and your pocketbook!

Diamond Shape

The Average Shape of a Diamond is Round. It’s the most popular shape there is, but it’s also the most expensive Cut. So if you want to save a couple bucks look into Fancy Cut Shapes like the Princess Cut, Oval Cut, Radiant Cut and Cushion Cut. They could actually save you THOUSANDS (Depending on the actual Carat Weight you buy)!

Mountings

The average mounting is a 14 Karat White Gold (Tiffany style) ring. It’s classic, elegant, and never goes out of style! See below…
