What Clarity Is This Diamond?

Let’s say you’re out shopping for a Certified Diamond. You’re looking for an SI1 Clarity Stone.

In fact, you’re so determined to buy an SI1 Diamond that you won’t even consider looking at other Certified Stones.

Sound familiar?

A lot of people are like this. They get a certain quality in mind and won’t even budge in the least. Sadly, they’re only hurting themselves.

Because every Diamond is different, and some Diamonds do faceup better than others, and of course, some Diamonds look worse.

This is because Diamond Grading is highly subjective and is nothing but an educated opinion as to what the real quality is. Granted, Certified Diamonds are graded by experts (usually by at least 3 Diamontologists who agree upon a decision), but their appearances can still be deceiving and sometimes questionable.

Some SI1 Diamonds look more like VS2 stones. Some I Clarity Diamonds look more like SI. You just don’t know unless you see them with your very own eyes.

Diamond Clarity Test

So let’s test this with pictures of real Diamonds. These Diamonds are sold by James Allen and are all Certified by GIA (which is the best in the business).

Let me start by showing you a Diamond Clarity Chart, just to familiarize yourself.

Okay, Ready?

Look at this Diamond photograph below and see if you can guess what the real Clarity is

Can You Determine Diamond Clarity?

I’ll give you a Clue…

This Diamond Clarity is either a VS2, SI1, SI2, or I1 Clarity. Think you know what it is?
Good! Because I would bet you are wrong!

I say this because this Diamond does not look like the Clarity it should be!

Let me give you more hints…

I’m going to lay out 4 more Diamonds for you (because seeing is believing), and I want you to look at these images and Clarity and see if you can figure out where this Diamond Clarity should fall…

What Diamond Clarity is this Diamond?

Go back and forth and really make a solid decision

Does it make it easier to decide seeing the images?

Comparing Diamonds like this is highly recommended for one other very good reason…

PRICE!

Because the difference in price between an SI1 Diamond and an I1 Diamond can be thousands!

Don’t believe me? Take a look at the prices of the two Diamonds below…

CARAT WEIGHT, CLARITY, COLOR, CUT, CERTIFIED PRICE VIEW
1.01, I1, F, EXCELLENT, GIA $5,040 VIEW
1.01, SI1, F, EXCELLENT, GIA $7,760 VIEW

See what I mean?

That one difference in Clarity (when everything else is exact) created a difference in price of $2,720. WOW!

So now, back to the Guessing Game…

Most people looking at that Diamond above would believe that it’s a VS2 Stone

They’d be Wrong!

And if you’re thinking that it’s an SI1 Diamond…

You’d be WRONG too!

So now let’s reveal what this true Clarity is…

It’s SI2!

Shocked? You should be, because this Diamond faces up more like a VS Stone. It really is amazing!

What it proves is that you can’t solely judge a Diamond by the Clarity listed on a Diamond Report. You have to view the Diamond with your very own eyes, and you have to view it under a 10x Microscope (Those stones above are shown at 10x Magnification – Which is what they use to Grade stones by).

Because you’ll never know if a Diamond looks better or worse than the actual Clarity Grade listed. Seriously, why spend $7,000 when you can get the same looking stone for $5,000?

Let’s compare…

This Diamond that you been trying to figure out, is an Excellent Cut, SI2 Diamond, F Color, 1.00 Carat, and Certified by GIA. It sells for $6,700.

Now, let’s look at this exact same Diamond Quality, side-by-side with a VS2 instead (like the Quality that the SI2 really looks like).

Compare Diamond Clarity!

It’s hard to tell the difference between them!

Now that’s an eye-opener!

That 1.00 Carat, VS2 Diamond, with F Color and an Excellent Cut, GIA Certified sells for $8,670.

Compare the two prices below…

CARAT WEIGHT, CLARITY, COLOR, CUT, CERTIFIED PRICE VIEW
1.01, VS2, F, EXCELLENT, GIA $8,630 VIEW
1.01, SI2, F, EXCELLENT, GIA $6,700 VIEW

That’s almost $2000 difference!

Wouldn’t you like to save $2,000? Just think of all the things that 2 Grand could buy you! It’s insane!

So before you shrug off ANY Diamond Clarity, stop and take a closer look. You may be surprised at what you find.

Plus, you could save yourself a lot of dough.

And who doesn’t want that? :)
