Should you Buy Diamond Studs, Hoops, Drops, or Dangles?

Women and men are always up in the air when it comes to buying earrings.

Trying to decide which pair of diamond earrings to purchase first is the big question.

  • Hoops?
  • Studs?
  • Dangles?
  • Drops?

Where do you begin?

So much confusion… so few earlobes.

So let’s take a walk to the jewelry showcase and decide…

Diamond studs:

diamond stud earrings look great with any outfit. You can wear studs day in and day out. They never get old or never go out of style.

Pretty much any carat weight will work as well.

One carats look big and beautiful. I would even go so far as to say that diamond studs are a must-have purchase. If you can get 1.00 carat studs (which is 1/2 carat or 50 points each), I think you’ll love them. You’ll have an awesome pair of diamonds that will always look wonderful. Studs are nice because they sit close to your ears and don’t get caught on anything.

The only problem with studs is, for a really awesome pair, you’ll have to spend an equally awesome price (Like these 1 carat diamond studs, SI clarity in white gold). Bottom line; studs are not cheap. And even though 2.00 carats are unbelievable, they are totally worth it.

Just make sure you get locking back earrings or screw posts so you don’t lose them.

Hoops are always a great present:

The best style of diamond hoops are the huggie-style earrings.

Huggie style earrings are the ones where the earring post locks into place in the back of the hoop (see picture). The earring post is out of sight when the hoops are in your ears so you don’t have to worry about losing earrings backs. You put the post through your ear and snap it closed. You’ll hear an audible snap, which tells you that the huggie earrings are locked and secure.

Diamond hoops make a great statement. They’re dressy, stunning and comfortable to wear. You get more for less. You can still get 1.00 carats, but it’ll cost you half the price. And you’ll have more diamonds too! You can’t beat that. More diamonds, but smaller diamonds… Smaller diamonds, smaller price.

So what should you wear?

No doubt about it, diamond earrings make a great gift for any birthday, anniversary or holiday.

While diamond studs and hoops always top of the list of diamond earring wishes, diamond dangles and drops don’t fall far behind.

The biggest reason why diamond dangles (see picture of two-tone earrings) don’t sell as well, is because diamond dangles are not an everyday earring.
So let’s look at those…

Dangles and drop earrings:

Dangles and drops are a little bit harder to wear than regular earrings. They look great, but usually only make their appearance at special occasions or fancy events. They can be stunning, but tend to get caught on things: phones, sweaters, hair… Anything that hangs down tends to fall a bit short in the must-wear department, although they are quite pretty and dazzling (perfect for a wedding).

Pretty, YES! Change of pace, YES! Practical, NO!

What type of diamond earrings should you buy?

I would say, buy diamond studs first.

You can never go wrong with studs. Ever!

Buy the biggest pair that you can afford, and then still get the next step up. You’ll be happy you did and you’ll never regret it. A great pair of diamond stud earrings will give you more wear for your buck, and you can wear them for life.

If you already have diamond studs, get a bigger pair. Diamond studs can never be too big.

Plus, lots of women have more than one hole in their ears and will wear graduated sizes of diamonds running up the earlobe. One carat in the top hole, 1/2 carats in the bottom…

3 holes?

And if there’s a third hole, wear 1/4 carats in those!

A graduated look with diamond studs is awesome and makes such a huge visual impact. Not to mention your ears will stand out and twinkle like a billion stars.

You won’t be able to stop smiling.

If you already have big diamond studs, get 2.00 carat studs

And if you simply must get something other than studs, get hoops. They make wonderful diamond hoops that have channel-set diamonds and pave-set diamonds that are a work of art. Diamond hoops will give her a clean look and a lot of pizzazz.

If you still don’t know what kind of earrings to buy, then buy a matching set.

A matching set is a set of earrings and a pendant. Earrings and a bracelet. Earrings and a ring

Everybody likes to match their jewelry, it balances out the entire wardrobe and enhances all the bling.

So who wins the diamond earring buying priority?

Diamond studs of course!

Just don’t forget to have the jeweler wrap them up.

Women love surprises.
