Choosing the Ring Mounting For Your Diamond Shape

Many people spend weeks and months choosing the perfect diamond.

They scrutinize over all sorts of details: shape, cut, color, clarity and carat weight. They fret over certification and girdle thickness. They sweat over percentages and angles, proportions and culet size

They end up with the most perfect diamond that their money can buy.

And then they turn around and make the biggest mistake of them all

They put their perfect diamond into the wrong mounting!

The wrong mounting?

It happens all the time. People just don’t understand how to choose the right mounting for the shape of their stone.

You see, there are so many things to consider. The biggest being the size of your diamond and the shape of your diamond. Size and shape are crucial to picking out the correct mounting and giving your ring beautiful symmetry and balance.

Your ring is TOO wide, or too thin?

If you pick a mounting that’s too wide, it’ll make your diamond look small. Likewise, if you pick out a mounting that’s too small, your diamond can become top-heavy, look unbalanced, and fall over.

So now that I got you thinking about that, let’s look at some…

Tips and pointers:

These should help you choose the proper, perfect mounting for your diamond.

Study the shape of your stone

Your mounting should contain similar shapes that your diamond has.

For example, if your diamond is brilliant cut (round), then your mounting should have nice rounded edges, curves, and smooth shapes flowing around it. It’ll probably even carry more brilliant cut diamonds down the side (see picture).

If you have a princess cut diamond (square cut), look for a mounting with hard edges, flat sides, straight lines. Mountings that have channel set diamonds work awesome with princess cut stones. And on top of that, if those channel set diamonds are princess cut also, all the better!

If you have a marquise cut diamond (football shaped), Buy a mounting with long lines and soft curves. One that graduates or tapers down the sides will show off the long lines of the stone. Baguette cut diamonds work hand in hand with a marquise stone.

It’s all about the shape of your diamond

Start with that and the mounting will always fall into place.

A mounting with balance, curves, edge lines and symmetry can enhance the appearance of your diamond and make it a beautiful work of art.
