HOW TO FIND THE PERFECT PINKY RING

So what is the secret to finding the perfect pinky ring?

Well it’s not as easy as you’d think…

Most people don’t dwell about what kind of ring to wear on their pinky, but believe me, there are lots of things to consider when making that all important pinky ring purchase.

For example:

Does the ring sit up high? If the rings sets up high then that pinky ring is going to take a lot of abuse. Every time you set your hands down or pick something up, your rings and the mountings will take a beating.

And if it’s setting up high, then it’ll be banging into things, getting caught, slammed around, squished. That ring will be unprotected, open to damage, and certainly get smashed.

Take it LOW:

So for starters, consider a ring with a low profile (See picture for examples of good pinky rings with low profile mountings that will wear nicely on your little finger).

Is the ring lightweight or hollow?

If the ring is wimpy, you’re going to end up crushing it or denting the sides in.

Pinky rings should be solid and durable so they can handle the frantic wear and tear. A pinky ring is the most abused ring you’ll ever own, so make sure it’s heavy enough to stand up to the test of time.

What about the gems?

You’ll also need to consider what gemstones you’ll want to have (if any).

There are a lot of gemstones that are brittle and break easily: stones like black onyx (which is a popular stone for a man’s ring), tanzanite (which is a great stone, but expensive and soft), opals (beautiful colorful fiery stones that dull up and crack easily), emeralds (one of the rarest precious stones out there, that I wouldn’t recommend for a pinky ring because it’s too soft).

Gemstones that chip and bust quickly shouldn’t be worn on the little finger. Those gemstones are just asking for trouble. Stick with more durable gems like sapphire, ruby, and of course the favorite; diamond.

There are many more things to consider too…

If your pinky ring has lots of prongs, expect to catch them all the time. You’ll catch them on everything… clothes, coats, hair, pantyhose (I feel sorry for your dog).

Get low prongs:

Make sure the ring has low prongs, or even better, get stones that are bead-set, flush-set, pave set, or channel set. Stones that are low and set down into the mounting will save you lots of headaches in the future.

And if you do want to wear gems in your pinky ring, try to have them sitting on the side closest to your finger (see the picture of the ring with the diamond on one side). That way when you wear the ring, the diamond or gemstone will be on the inside and more protected.

What about the gold?

Another thing to consider when buying a ring for the pinky is the type of gold. I normally don’t recommend 10kt gold because of the low gold content, but for a pinky ring, it’s PERFECT! 10kt is more durable than 14kt, and for a pinky ring that gets hit a lot, it’s ideal.

A final note:

When you get a pinky ring sized, make sure it’s a little snug.

You see, your pinky finger doesn’t have a big knuckle like your other fingers (look at it). Pinky’s are normally thinner and smoother. So if you’re wearing a ring there, and your hands get cold or wet, that ring will come right off and you’d never know it.

So get it sized down enough so it grabs your knuckle snugly (just not too tight it leaves indentations). You’ll be happier because you’ll never have your ring slip off and disappear.
