Cheap Solid Gold Watches

Let’s talk about Cheap Gold Watches.

Real Gold.

Solid Gold!

Like 10k, 14k, or 18k Gold.

First off, Gold these days is NOT cheap. So any product made of Gold is going to be expensive.

Second… If the Gold Watch is CHEAP, you probably don’t want it.

You see, there are many types of Gold Watches on the market (I’m talking about real ones, not Gold Plated Watches), just look on Amazon, Ebay, or any Jeweler’s Website and you’ll probably see some.

Take a look at what I will call, Cheap Gold Watches

The problem with Gold Watches that are cheap (and by cheap, I’m talking about the $100-$400 range… which really isn’t cheap, but by Gold Watch Standards, it is CHEAP!) is that they are usually really thin (like paper-thin), and very fragile. The band gets so weak and brittle that you can bend it and break it with your own fingers. The hinges, parts, screws all wear down really fast.

I’ve seen some crappy, crappy Watches over the years that are pure junk. The customers that own these pay hundreds of dollars in up-keep and repairs a year ($25 per joint per solder). Plus, fixing them is not easy, nor beautiful. Many times you just have to solder it back together and it ain’t pretty. Jewelers do what they have to do to make the piece wearable again.

Initially the Watch was cheap, hence the reason they bought it, but over the long haul the price of that watch (with the repairs) will sky-rocket!

So what do I recommend?

Buy a Watch from a reputable manufacturer (not some Generic Gold Watch). A reputable company will back their watch with Warranties and Guarantees. And if you can get some kind of service plan on the watch to cover future repairs, all the better.

Because Gold DOES wear down. There’s no way around it. But a good Watch that’s made well should last you a lifetime.

Companies that I would recommend: TAGHeur, Movado, Omega, Longines, Cartier, Rolex…

They’ll make a nice solid Watch that won’t fall apart on you.

Just know, they aren’t cheap! But a real Solid Gold Watch shouldn’t be!

And if you still end up buying a Cheap Gold Watch…

Don’t say I didn’t warn you! :)
